CAVU Aviation - Neenah

Discover Flying with CAVU Aviation

Flying opens up a new world with new possibilities. Do more in less time. Fly for business, pleasure, or even a career. Take short local flights or long trips. Experience the freedom and enjoy the view. As a pilot, your opportunities are endless. Learning to fly is an adventure!

Cavu Aviation's pilot training is performed under 14 CFR Part 61 regulations. You may train on a schedule convenient for you. Ground school is a combination of home study and one-on-one instruction. Our Green Bay facility is a LaserGrade testing center where you may take FAA knowledge tests. Cavu Aviation has an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner on staff to administer practical tests and issue certificates and ratings.

Basic Pilot Training

Student pilots may choose from three different routes to earning pilot-in-command privileges -- that is, the privilege to operate an aircraft without supervision and carry passengers. For the majority of pilots, the private pilot certificate is the first goal as it is the least restrictive. However, it is also the most expensive, so some pilots opt for a recreational certificate. A new certificate called the sport pilot certificate is also available, making it easier and less expensive to take to the skies.

Sport Pilot
NEW! CAVU Aviation is offering sport pilot training beginning late summer 2007. This certificate requires a minimum of 20 hours of flight time and does not require an FAA medical certificate. Sport pilots may upgrade to recreational or private pilots with additional training and testing.

Recreational Pilot
The recreational certificate is similar to the private pilot certificate but has certain limitations. It is suited for those who wish to fly only during the day in the local area surrounding the airport, outside of airspace requiring communication with air traffic control, solo or with one passenger. Some limitations can be removed with additional training. This certificate requires a minimum of 30 hours of flight time. Recreational pilots can upgrade to private pilots with additional training and testing.

Private Pilot
The private pilot certificate is the most widely held pilot certificate. This certificate allows you to fly virtually any small airplane (with appropriate training and ratings), day or night, carrying passengers or baggage. Although operating expenses may be equally shared with your passengers, you may not fly for compensation or hire, nor carry passengers or property for compensation or hire. As a private pilot, you have access to over 5,000 public-use airports in the United States. This certificate requires a minimum of 40 hours of flight time.

Advanced Pilot Training

Several certificates and ratings exist to expand a pilot's privileges beyond the private level.

Instrument Rating
An instrument rating permits you to "fly by instruments" without visual references to the ground, horizon, or other landmarks. This rating improves the utility of your private pilot certificate by allowing you to fly through clouds, rain, or fog in a properly equipped airplane. The instrument rating is a prerequisite for an unrestricted commercial pilot certificate.

Commercial Pilot
A commercial pilot certificate allows you to carry passengers and/or cargo for compensation or hire. Commercial pilot training is necessary to obtain the knowledge, experience, and proficiency required in a flying career. You will learn to operate advanced aircraft systems and learn to fly an airplane with retractable landing gear.

Multi-Engine Rating
This rating allows you to fly multi-engine aircraft. Typically this phase of training is completed after the commercial certificate, but you may also add the rating to a private pilot certificate.

Flight Instructor (CFI)
A flight instructor certificate allows you to give flight and ground training -- i.e., to teach others to fly. An individual who wishes to have a career as a pilot typically earns all of the above certificates and ratings along with the flight instructor certificate. As a certified flight instructor (CFI), you can be paid for your services and log your flight time. You may expand your instruction privileges with additional add-on ratings.

Airline Transport Pilot (ATP)
The airline transport pilot certificate is one of the last acheivements required in an aviation career. This certificate is typically earnedin a multi-engine aircraft and requires a vast knowledge in all areas of aviation, along with maximum proficiency in flight operations.
