Helicopter Pilot's License Requirements

The FAA requires a minimum of 40 hrs to get a private helicopter license. Most student pilots usually can get their pilots license in about 60 - 80 hrs. (based on national averages). The next step is to earn a commercial pilot license, then Instructor certification (CFI) which takes about 200 hrs. and passing the FAA required exams. Certified Flight instructors are then able to build their flight time by instructing student pilots.

Pilots looking to get an add on are required to receive a minimum of 20 hrs.
